Spreading costs of a funeral

Spreading Costs

Getting things organised in advance can be very therapeutic. It's a decision that will have to be made at some stage anyway, so making it now means that you can tick it off the list and know that it's settled.

It might suit you to spread payments over ten or twenty months. If so, simply complete the Standing Order Form and return it to us together with your application forms.  We'll check the details and arrange the monthly payments with your bank.

The only additional cost involved in doing it this way is an administration charge of £50 to cover the extra bookkeeping activities needed to set up the process and check off the monthly payments.

As well as acknowledging your application, we'll also send you a receipt and certificate of purchase when your payments are complete.

"The extraordinary thing that I found was that having decided that we would like to be buried there too, that gave us a feeling of peace ourselves.

It's very strange, I've often heard people say in their seventies and eighties who were very happy knowing where they were going to be buried, and I hadn't realised that I would feel that way myself, but actually, I do..."

Managing costs

When possible, we advise to plan ahead. We understand however that funerals aren't always that simple. For a list of pages with useful information about financial assistance and will writing, please see our Practical Advice page.

If you are looking at funeral plans, it might be worth looking at the Good Funeral Guide Funeral Plan, which we think offers the most control and flexibility.
