On the Day of the Funeral
Planning and attending a funeral at our natural burial grounds can be a unique and deeply meaningful experience. Unlike traditional funerals, natural burials focus on simplicity, sustainability, and a deep connection with nature. Here’s what you can expect on the day of a funeral at our natural burial grounds;
1. Arrival and Setting
When you arrive at the scheduled time, you’ll be greeted by the custodian. Our burial grounds are situated in meadows and woodlands, emphasising environmental preservation. Expect to be surrounded by wildflowers, native trees, and the soothing sounds of nature.
2. Parking and Gathering
Our parking areas are simple and unobtrusive, designed to blend with the natural surroundings. Once parked, the custodian will guide you and your guests to the gravesite.
3. The Gravesite
The gravesite will be prepared and ready for your arrival. Unlike traditional cemeteries with manicured lawns, expect a rustic setting with natural vegetation, creating a peaceful and authentic environment.
4. Ceremony
The ceremony can be as formal or informal and personalised as you wish. You may choose to have the ceremony elsewhere beforehand, with just the burial taking place at the burial ground.
5. Lowering the Coffin
The biodegradable coffin or shroud will be gently lowered into the grave. This can be done by the funeral director’s staff or with the help of family and friends.
6. Farewells
There will be an opportunity for guests to say their goodbyes. This can include silent reflection or sharing a message.
7. Covering the Grave
You are welcome to stay at the burial ground for as long as you wish. After the guests leave, the custodian and gravedigger will backfill the grave. Over time, the grave will naturally blend back into the environment.
8. Aftercare and Memorials
Our natural burial grounds do not have permanent grave markers. Instead, you will receive a certificate of burial with the What3Words and GPS location of the grave. This allows you to visit the exact location using your mobile device. The burial grounds are open year-round during daylight hours, including special days like Christmas, Mother’s Day and Bank Holidays.
For those who wish to have a name recorded, we offer framed memorial panels or shelters where plaques with the name, year of birth, and year of death are mounted. Memorial rights last for 25 years and are renewable.

Dress in layers and be prepared for varying weather conditions. Bring an umbrella or raincoat if rain is forecast, and a hat or sunglasses for sunny days.
Toilets Facilities:
Not all burial grounds have on-site toilet facilities, so please use a restroom before you arrive.
